Why did we want to predict Covid-19

Given the overwhelming importance and impact COVID-19 has had on all of us over the past 24 months we wanted to find a way to help. One of the ways we wanted to explore this is by investigating whether or not we could help constrained or limited resources fighting on the front line of the virus, like Hospitals.

We have repeatedly seen that hospitals and more importantly hospital staff have been constantly over capacity in dealing with sick and dying patients. Our goal is to see if we could provide them a time buffer to predict surges to help them prepare. This ideally would increased patient care and outcomes leading to a lower death rate.

The figure below shows the relationship between number of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 and the death rate. There is generally a positive corrulation between high numbers of COVID-19 patients and deaths.

Interestingly enough, direct corrulation cannot be drawn when comparing vaccination rates (millions) and deaths due to COVID-19. The figure below shows this relationship between New Deaths and number of vaccines administered.
